- On April 29, 1986, Roger Clemens set
- a major league record that will probably
- stand for a long time: he struck out 20
- batters in a nine inning game. The
- previous record had been 19, shared
- by Steve Carlton, Nolan Ryan, and Tom
- Seaver. During the game, Roger threw
- 97 strikes and 41 balls. He walked no
- one. Only 29 of those strikes connected
- with wood, and only 10 were hit into fair
- territory. He gave up three hits and won
- the game, 3-1. To this day, RogerΓÇÖs
- record remains one of pitchingΓÇÖs
- greatest accomplishments.
